Condition guide

Understand the pattern before choosing a path.

Neck pain can have many presentations. A useful evaluation considers onset, movement, neurological signs, daily demands, and health history before care is recommended.

Start with context

The location is
not the diagnosis.

Neck pain may feel local, spread toward a shoulder or upper back, or change with posture and movement. Those details matter, but they do not establish a diagnosis by themselves.

At The Lab, an evaluation can help determine whether conservative care is appropriate, whether an available service may fit, or whether referral for another type of assessment should come first.

02Assessment questions

Details that can
change the picture.

These questions help organize a visit. They are not a self-diagnosis checklist.

  1. 01

When did the concern begin, and was there an injury or other clear change?

  2. 02

Which movements, positions, work demands, sleep positions, or activities change it?

  3. 03

Are there headaches, dizziness, numbness, tingling, weakness, balance changes, fever, or other new symptoms?

  4. 04

What prior care, imaging, health conditions, or medications are relevant?

A considered evaluation

Information,
in sequence.

  1. 01

A focused history that includes symptom behavior, recent trauma, health history, and activity demands.

  2. 02

An appropriate movement and neurological assessment to add context to the history.

  3. 03

Digital X-ray only when clinically indicated; imaging is not automatically required for every presentation.

  4. 04

A discussion of findings, uncertainty, care options, and referral when another evaluation is warranted.

If conservative care fits

Options remain
conditional.

  • 01

Chiropractic care may be considered when the evaluation supports it.

  • 02

Corrective exercise may be used to practice selected movement or capacity goals.

  • 03

NeuFit rehabilitation or Class IV laser may be considered as components of an individualized plan when appropriate.

  • 04

No service is presented as a cure, and individual results vary.

When to seek urgent help

Know the threshold.

Seek urgent medical evaluation for neck pain after significant trauma or with new or worsening weakness, numbness, severe headache, fever with severe illness, loss of coordination, or other concerning symptoms. Call 911 for signs of stroke, chest pain, trouble breathing, or any severe or life-threatening emergency.

03Common questions

Useful context,
not a diagnosis.

01What causes neck pain?

There are many possible contributors, and similar symptoms can have different explanations. A website cannot identify the cause; onset, health history, associated symptoms, and examination findings all matter.

02Can chiropractic care be considered for neck pain?

It may be considered after an evaluation determines that conservative chiropractic care is appropriate. The technique and plan should reflect the individual presentation.

03Will I need a neck X-ray?

Not automatically. Digital X-ray may be considered when the history and examination establish a clinical reason for additional structural information.

04When should I seek urgent help?

Seek urgent assessment after significant trauma or for new weakness, numbness, severe headache, fever with severe illness, loss of coordination, or rapidly worsening symptoms. Call 911 for stroke signs, chest pain, breathing trouble, or another severe emergency.
